At 1:41 p.m. (5:41 a.m. CT) on Sunday, October 23, a quake with a magnitude of 7.2 hit Van province of Turkey near the border of Iran.

According to TRT, state-run network, 59 people were killed and 150 were injured in Ercis. 25 people were also killed in provincial capital also named Van. One other person was reported dead in Bitlis. However, officials fear that 1000 people may have been killed by the earthquake. We have received many calls and emails from the community expressing sympathy. We are very saddened by this disaster and extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May God comfort them at this difficult time.

   The Raindrop Turkish House will organize a book signing event with Jim Harrington, Director of Texas Civil Rights Project and Adjunct Professor  at UT School of Law on September,17, 2011 at 10:00 Am. Mr.Harrington will give an overview of his book "Wrestling with Free Speech, Religious Freedom, and Democracy in Turkey", 

     "From the Foreword: Harrington tells a story that illuminates two of the most important issues of our time. The way he tells the story and the sources on which he has relied represent the best kind of historical research and analysis. Jim Harrington is one my heroes for he has spent more than four decades in the struggle for human rights.

On September 9th 2011, Friday, Raindrop Turkish House hosted Representative Joe Farias and Turkish-American friends at Raindrop Turkish House. Representative Joe Farias gave a speech about his memories and  how to build peaceful world and prevent another September 11. The event organized by Raindrop Turkish House took place at the Raindrop Turkish Cultural Center. There were about 50 people who attended to the dinner.

The San Antonio branch of the Raindrop Turkish House volunteers met with a large group of Los Angeles Heights Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, at Breaking the Fasting Dinner on Wednesday August 17, 2011.
