EID PICNIC

The Raindrop Foundation in Oklahoma City organized the Bayram (Eid) Picnic on Saturday, October 4th, 2014. Both local and Turkish people from the community came together for this exciting and refreshing event. Adult participants as well as the children had a great opportunity to experience the excitement of coming together with friends. While they enjoyed themselves jumping in the inflatable bounce castle, the rest of the guests enjoyed the delicious Turkish foods served at the picnic. The foundation also provided many toys to the children to keep them excited and entertained throughout the event. The picnic was a great success as we had many members of the community come out and enjoy themselves amongst one another. We look forward to seeing you all at our next Eid Picnic as well as other future activities held at the center.

Raindrop Foundation Collaboration with Ice Angels To Feed The Homeless

On Friday, October 10th, 2014, the Raindrop Turkish House joined efforts with the Ice Angels of Epworth to help the homeless and needy of OKC. The members of the Turkish community worked hard to provide a hot meal which included meat balls, potatoes, rice, and baklava. The Ice Angels generously provided the tables and water. We were very pleased to serve 40-50 people, especially on this chilly day. A homeless gentleman was gracious enough to come and help set up tables as we prepared for the event. He expressed gratitude towards the care and effort used to feed the homeless on their day off. Also during the set up, we noticed that more and more people were starting to participate in the event. There was more than enough food to feed anyone who was in need. As the people received their food, we received much praise and thanking's for our efforts. Most of them also expressed that it was great to experience food from a different culture. The Raindrop Foundation will continue to feed the homeless along with Ice Angels of Epworth in the future as needed. We enjoyed having the opportunity to collaborate with such good friends to help prepare meals for those who are less fortunate.

Oklahoma City University Students Visited Raindrop Foundation

The Raindrop Turkish House was proud to host the UCO Broncho Buddies Turkish excursion. Broncho Buddies, an intercultural program that pairs American students with international students, attended Raindrop Turkish House's biweekly Friday social night. The UCO students were able to learn about Turkish culture, language, and eat delicious Turkish cuisine. The social night also gave Raindrop Turkish House a chance to share with the students all of the services provided by the non-profit association. These services include Turkish language classes, Turkish cuisine cooking classes, a trip to Turkey, and many social events. After learning about Turkey and Raindrop Turkish House, the UCO students were able to hear the calm, mysterious music of the oud, a classic stringed instrument which is common in Turkish culture. The event was a wonderful success as the guests left wiser, happier, and with a full stomach. Please join us for our next social night as we will have similar activities and learning opportunities present at the event.
