A Memorable Trip to Turkey with Austin ISD Global Studies Program

0C4198B6-95CF-4702-A7AB-6F78221DB70ARaindrop Foundation collaborated with the Austin ISD Global Studies Program in implementing a trip-to-Turkey educational and cultural exchange program between May 17 and 25, 2014. A total of 89 participants visited a variety of sites in Turkey’s three provinces, namely Istanbul, Bursa and Izmir. The group was comprised of mostly senior students in the AGS program and their teachers and chaperones from Raindrop Foundation.

Coffee Night with Margaret Perry

img 8727  1401908769 51701 1Raindrop Women's Association had an another memorable and fun Coffee Night before the summer break. It was also a meaningful night because all the profit was sent to tornado victims ın Arkansas.

After a very large and delicious dinner as always, the night began with Margaret Perry's, the director of the Armstrong Community Music School, speech. She talked about music education for all ages and surprised the audience with the real life examples of how early this education begins and how it effects our lives. She also talked about using music as a way of healing physically or mentally effected patients.

Houston’s diversity, booming economy, and culture are in part a result of refugees who have brought new flavors and zest from their home countries. We will celebrate refugees’ unrelenting perseverance and positivity on World Refugee Day, Saturday June 21, 2014 at the Raindrop Foundation Turkish House from 3:00-7:00pm. Donate for SOMA!

soma-70F1-6B1F-1312On Tuesday, May 13th a mining disaster claimed the lives of nearly 300 miners in Soma near western Turkey. According to reports the death toll seems certain to rise, as about 100 people are still missing. The disaster was caused by a fire in the mine. Efforts were made to save the victims, however only around 100 have been rescued.The mine explosion is already being called the deadliest industrial disaster in Turkey's history.

Great Meeting Abroad

IMG 2492April 23 National Children’s Holiday brought Turkish community together.Turkish people who live in Austin got together at a picnic on April 23rd. ATAA (Austin Turkish American Association) and Raindrop Turkish House organized picnic together. While children were having fun, parent had a chance to socialize. Sanver Ceylan, ATAA president, said , " unlike past two years , this year's meeting was more enthusiastic with the participation of all Turkish communities who live in Austin " and he added , " I would liketo  thank to everybody who contributed to this event. It was a team work. Preparations started months ago so the picnic was a great turn out with everyone's unconditional devotion. We enjoyed the food made by Turkish ladies and everybody was so glad that there was doner provided by Raindrop Turkish House".
