Breaking a fast meal for Turkic People
2008 iftar kapak.jpgRamadan month is started on September, 1. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims do not eat or drink anything from dawn until sunset.
Fasting is meant to teach the person patience, sacrifice and humility.
Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer even more
prayer than usual. And on 3rd day of Ramadan most of Turkic people in Bryan come together to have breaking a fast dinner. After rich dinner menu, they were deep in conversation with each other, sipping hot tasty tea. Guests from Austin, Houston and New Orleans

maklube kapak.jpgKazakh Shanyraq Foundation greeted their first visitors from different citis on September,1. All together had a delicious "Maklube" pilaw for Ramadan evening meal. After the meal they shared opinions about future plans of Kazakh Shanyraq Foundation. Next meeting place is decided to be Austin.(September 1, 2008, Bryan/College Station, Texas)

Opening ceremony of Kazakh Shanyraq Foundation and the constitution day of Kazakhstan celebrated by Kazakh people in Bryan / College Station on August, 30. Kazakh students played Kazakh national instrument "Dombira" which pleasant music made nostalgia feeling to everyone. Now, they are looking forward to the next party. TEA NIGHT FOR TURKIC LADIES

turkic night kapak .jpgTea night for Turkic Ladies started on August, 23. The ladies from different Turkic countires such as Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Turkey came together to meet and have friendly conversation. The night was followed by luscious food and hot aromatic Asian tea.
It is a great chance to communicate with your compatriot, get new friends and just share your feelings and emotions.  We come together once a month, next night will be on September, 12. All interested are cordially welcome!  (August 23, 2008, Bryan/College Station, Texas)

Orientation for new Turkic Students

seminer kapak.jpgCollege Station Raindrop Turkish House organized an orientation for international newcomers on August 22nd. Two distinguished speakers, Jackie Maynard and Craig Rotter provided useful information about adjusting to life in the US and becoming familiar with on/off campus and immigration requirements.
 
Jackie Maynard who is a Lieutenant at Bryan Police Department presented important information about adjusting life in the US, understanding community culture and regulations, accessing community resources, and being acknowledged for community services. Craig Rotter who is a student leadership coordinator at Texas A&M University informed new students about understanding university rules, regulations and academic procedures, maintaining proper immigration status as an international student, using the university health services and purchasing health insurance, registering for classes, accessing university computer resources and other services available to them on-campus.       (August 22, 2008, Bryan/College Station, Texas)

Brazos Valley Worldfest Coordinator Kim Fox, visited Raindrop Turkish House

Brazos Valley Worldfest Coordinator Kim Fox visited Raindrop Turkish House and informed officers from Raindrop and Turkish Student Association about the upcoming international festival that will take place in Historic Downtown Bryan, on November 22nd, 2008. The festival is organized by Texas A&M University International Center to promote and celebrate the international diversity and heritage of the Brazos Valley. The event will be sponsored by Citibank and Texas A&M University. Brazos Valley Worldfest was first organized last year and attracted about 3000 people. This year the organizers expect at least 4000-5000 people. Raindrop Turkish House and Turkish Student Association of Texas A&M University will be participating in the festival to introduce Turkey and Turkish culture to Brazos Valley. RAINDROP TURKISH HOUSE HOSTED TURKEY TRIP PARTICIPANTS
img_0590_-_copy.jpgParticipants to Turkey Trip from this year and previous years had a chance to come together last night in Raindrop Turkish House. They shared the moments that live on in their memories by looking at pictures from the trip. The guests also talked about planning some future events in order to keep in touch while having delicious Turkish food and Turkish tea served by Raindrop Turkish House.
 Raindrop Turkish House organizes cultural trips to Turkey as yet another means of building bridges and strengthening friendships between Turkish-Americans and their neighbors.
